As many readers to this website can recall, there were a few scam programs going on in Monroe under the guise of “fundraising for Volunteer firefighters” here in Monroe. One of them was a mass mailing, the other was a telemarketing campaign. Apparently the new year has brought another phone scam to the area. Citizens in Trumbull are being solicitated to raise money for their fire departments without the knowledge of the fire departments themselves!
Here is the story, courtesy of Long Hill Fire Department’s Facebook page:
Long Hill Fire is AGAIN issuing the following PHONE SCAM WARNING:
Just this morning, (Jan. 2, 2019) we have become aware that a group of scammers are again actively calling Trumbull residents posing as our department asking for donations. LHFD IS NOT MAKING THESE PHONE CALLS!!
Last year, it was reported that many times the caller ID displayed “VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS” or “FIRST RESPONDERS”; this too has again been CONFIRMED as of this morning.
…
Please do not donate to these criminals. This is NOT any of the three volunteer fire departments in Trumbull!
PLEASE SHARE this Warning with your Friends and Family!
