Stepney Fire responded to the town of Bethel for a major structure fire. The industrial fire occurred at 21 Francis J. Clarke Circle shortly after 3pm on Sunday, May 19th. The building is the home of Intersurface Dynamics, a chemical manufacturer, and ATP, an adhesive tape company
Stepney joined companies across the region including Monroe and Stevenson companies. Other companies also responded sending manpower and/or apparatus to the fire. The Structure Fire Task Force from Fairfield County is made up of Stepney, Nichols, White Hills, Trumbull Center and Long Hill Volunteer Fire Departments. Another structure fire Task Force was sent from New Haven County which consisted of Prospect, Wolcott Southbury, Middlebury and Beacon Falls.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene which reportedly destroyed the ATP side of the building and heavily damaged the chemical manufacturer.
According to Stepney Chief Mike Klemish, who was also working at the scene, approximately eighteen tankers responded to the fire from all over the area who supplied more than eighty round trips to drop off their water and then get refilled. In addition, six ladder trucks and countless engines. Stepney provided Engine/Tanker 101 with a crew of six.
Stepney units returned to quarters at approximately 10:30pm.
